Research shows that over the last 15 years, corporate charitable giving overall has dropped by 50 percent. However, unlike many companies across the U.S., philanthropic efforts are going strong at CUSO Financial Services and Sorrento Pacific Financial in San Diego.
At CFS/SPF, we believe that employees’ connectivity to their communities contributes to overall wellness so we support employees’ charitable efforts and activities. Our Spirit Squad is a group of volunteer employees who manage activities related to employee morale and internal culture, and who coordinate our numerous charitable events. Besides the employees’ many efforts, CFS/SPF also will often match donations and provide time off for employees to participate in charitable activities.
A few key examples of the many charitable activities CFS/SPF employees have led include:
- Reading to children,
- Visiting an elderly home,
- Participating in career fairs.
- Raising $5,000 for Challenged Athletes Fund by hosting a 5K fun run/walk
- Selling water balloon toss tickets to support victims of wild fires
- And much more
But our most successful fundraiser was our car wash which employees held to raise money for victims of the recent hurricanes, wild fires, floods, and the Las Vegas shooting. With so many tragedies back-to-back, employees were inspired to gather corporate matches from partner financial institutions and it worked. Employees raised $2,500 dollars washing cars, which, with corporate matches, turned into $13,000 dollars that were donated to the victims. What an amazing success! See our time-lapse video showing all the work we did!
It’s so gratifying to see what a difference CFS/SPF employees make to our communities near and far. Thank you to our senior managers who lead by example, and thank you to all of our employees for their tireless charitable spirit. You make CFS/SPF the humanitarian leader that it is.
